Hamid Karzai: Ashura Symbolizes Reform and Social Responsibility

Hamid Karzai, former President of Afghanistan, on the occasion of Ashura—the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (PBUH)—described the day as a symbol of reform, sacrifice, and social responsibility. In a message posted on the social media platform X, he wrote that Imam Hussein stood against social injustice and corruption, calling upon society to pursue reform and righteousness.

Karzai emphasized that the historical events of Karbala continue to inspire responsibility, courage, and awakening among Muslims. He stated that the message of Ashura is not confined to a specific historical period but can serve as a guide for Islamic societies confronting disorder at any time.

The former president added that the people of Afghanistan, like other Muslims around the world, honor Ashura and regard their love for the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) family as a source of unity and brotherhood.

He expressed hope that Afghans will draw on the spirituality of Ashura to strengthen national unity and work collectively through education and knowledge for the country’s progress, prosperity, and development.
