84 Kilometers of TAPI Gas Pipeline Completed in Herat, Afghanistan

The Taliban-led Herat Governor’s Office has announced that 84 kilometers of the TAPI gas pipeline project in the province have been laid so far. According to the office’s statement, the project’s execution is progressing rapidly, with plans for the pipeline to become operational by early 2027.
The statement also notes that 130 kilometers of the total route have been leveled, and 108 kilometers of related roads have been completed. These preparations are part of the technical groundwork necessary for the full installation of the gas transmission line.
The TAPI project, which aims to transport Turkmen gas through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India, is considered one of the region’s major energy initiatives, with Herat serving as one of the key transit areas along the pipeline route. Taliban officials have previously emphasized the project’s economic importance for Afghanistan.
However, no further details have been provided regarding progress in other sections, funding sources, or measures to ensure the project’s continuity—issues that have consistently been major concerns for large infrastructure projects in the country.
