Netanyahu Tells Trump: Israeli Forces Will Not Withdraw from Lebanon

A Hebrew-language newspaper has reported that Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, informed Donald Trump, the President of the United States, that Israeli forces will remain in their positions inside Lebanese territory and will not withdraw from there.

According to the report by the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, Netanyahu also emphasized that Israel does not consider itself bound by the Lebanon-related provisions in the recent agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Informed sources have stated that this message was officially conveyed to the U.S. President.

The Israeli Prime Minister also stressed the continuation of military operations against Hezbollah, claiming that these actions aim to eliminate threats. However, during previous clashes, residential areas and civilian infrastructure in Lebanon have often been targeted.

This stance comes as the Prime Minister of Pakistan had earlier announced that, following intensive negotiations, a peace agreement had been reached between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, with both parties agreeing to an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon. According to him, the official signing ceremony of this agreement is scheduled for Friday, June 19, in Switzerland.

Lebanon and Israel have signed ceasefire agreements multiple times over recent years; however, these agreements have frequently been violated, and tensions along the two sides’ borders have persisted.
