Global Praise for Iran-US Ceasefire Agreement; Mixed Reactions Emerge in Israel

Following the announcement of an agreement between Iran and the United States to end the war and establish a ceasefire, several countries have welcomed the understanding, while Israeli media has shown varied reactions.

The Spanish Foreign Minister expressed support for the deal, appreciating the efforts of the mediators and highlighting the freedom of navigation and security in the Strait of Hormuz as two important issues. He emphasized that dialogue and negotiation can resolve existing problems and ensure ceasefires, including in Lebanon.

Simultaneously, the Australian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister jointly welcomed the Tehran-Washington agreement, describing it as a step towards easing tensions. Their statement noted the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz to reduce pressure on energy prices and the regional economy. Australian officials called on all parties involved to seize this opportunity to achieve lasting peace.

Australia also expressed hope that Iran would address the concerns raised regarding its nuclear program. The country praised the efforts of Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and other mediators.

Alongside these endorsements, Israeli media displayed diverse and sometimes conflicting responses to the agreement. The newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Benjamin Netanyahu had expected the attack on Beirut to disrupt negotiations, but ultimately the agreement was signed.

Ronny Raimon, a strategic adviser to the Israeli cabinet, stated that Israel should not become a victim of the peace agreement. Israel’s Channel 14 described the understanding as a “significant achievement” for Iran, noting that an immediate ceasefire would be implemented and Israel should halt its attacks on Lebanon.

Conversely, the newspaper Maariv claimed that Netanyahu told US President Donald Trump that the Israeli military would not withdraw from Lebanon and did not consider itself bound by the Lebanon-related clause in the agreement. Yedioth Ahronoth also reported that Netanyahu insisted on keeping Israeli forces at their current positions inside Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the Secretariat of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council announced that after several months of intensive negotiations, the text of the memorandum of understanding to end the war between Iran and the US has been finalized. According to the announcement, the war and military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, will immediately and permanently cease, and the naval blockade against Iran will be lifted. The official signing of this memorandum is scheduled for June 19.

So far, various countries including Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey, Australia, Japan, France, the United Kingdom, and Italy have welcomed the agreement and emphasized the necessity of continuing dialogue to consolidate stability in the region.
