Tel Aviv Expresses Concerns Over Potential US-Iran Agreement
Israeli media have reported rising concerns within Tel Aviv’s political and security circles about the finalization of a possible agreement between the United States and Iran. Senior Israeli officials told Channel 12 that the framework of the emerging deal could impact Israel’s security interests.
According to the channel, some officials claim that the American side has accepted parts of Iran’s demands, and several of Israel’s stated objectives are not directly reflected in the agreement’s text. They noted that the deal does not include a clear commitment to halt Iran’s support for its allied forces in the region.
Israeli officials have also expressed worry that the implementation of the agreement could enable the resumption of certain regional interactions with Iran. They said that Iran’s nuclear capabilities are expected to be addressed at later stages, a matter that Tel Aviv believes requires further clarity.
Haaretz newspaper also reported that Israeli officials are skeptical about the timeline set in the new agreement framework. They believe the proposed 60-day period for negotiations could provide Tehran with more opportunities for diplomatic maneuvers.
The newspaper quoted an Israeli official saying that Tel Aviv has had a limited role in the decision-making process that brought the talks to their current stage. Questions have also been raised about whether Washington will be able to use this deal to reduce or eliminate a significant portion of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile.
Overall, Israeli political circles emphasize that it remains unclear to what extent the potential agreement will address their key concerns, including Iran’s ballistic missile program and its relations with Hezbollah.
