Tel Aviv Expresses Concern Over Potential US-Iran Agreement

Israeli media have reported growing concerns within Tel Aviv’s political and security circles over the possible finalization of an agreement between the United States and Iran. Senior Israeli officials told Channel 12 that the emerging framework of the deal could impact Israel’s security interests.
According to the network, some officials claim that the American side has agreed to certain Iranian demands, and that several of Israel’s stated objectives are not directly reflected in the agreement’s text. They also said the deal does not include specific obligations for Iran to halt its support for allied forces in the region.
Israeli officials have also expressed anxiety that the implementation of the agreement might enable the resumption of certain regional interactions involving Iran. They noted that Iran’s nuclear capabilities are planned to be addressed in later stages, a matter that Tel Aviv believes requires further clarification.
Haaretz newspaper reported that Israeli authorities doubt the timeline set out in the new agreement framework. They believe the anticipated 60-day period for negotiations could grant Tehran additional opportunities for diplomatic maneuvering.
The newspaper cited an Israeli official stating that Tel Aviv has had a limited role in the decision-making process that brought the negotiations to their current stage. There is also skepticism about whether Washington will be able to use this agreement to reduce or eliminate a significant portion of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile.
Overall, Israel’s political circles have stressed that it remains unclear to what extent the potential agreement will address their key concerns, including Iran’s ballistic missile program and Tehran’s ties with Hezbollah.
