Trump Announces US-Iran Agreement to Be Signed Tomorrow, Promises Strait of Hormuz Reopening

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, claimed that an agreement between the US and Iran is set to be signed tomorrow, Sunday. According to him, immediately after the signing, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened to all countries.

On Saturday, in remarks covered by media outlets including Al Jazeera, Trump said the deal could prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He claimed that once the situation calms down, actions related to Iran’s enriched nuclear materials would be taken at the “appropriate time” and expressed hope that this process would proceed quickly and smoothly. However, he also warned that if the process fails, “alternative options” are available.

The US president emphasized that, according to him, this agreement differs from the nuclear deal during Barack Obama’s administration and claimed that under the new framework, no money would be exchanged between the two sides. He described the current relations between Washington and Tehran as “different and better than previous administrations.”

These statements come as Esmail Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had earlier stated that a memorandum of understanding might be finalized in the coming days, but no plans have been arranged for travel to Geneva or any other location in the next day or two.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical strategic passages for energy transportation, and any developments there have a direct impact on global oil markets and regional security.
