3,693 People Return to Afghanistan via Four Border Crossings Amid Rising Repatriation

The Taliban administration announced that yesterday, 724 families, totaling 3,693 individuals, entered Afghanistan through the Torgham, Spin Boldak, Islam Qala, and Nimroz border crossings. According to the administration, the highest number of returnees entered through the Torgham crossing.

Hamdullah Fetrat, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban administration, stated in a press release on Thursday, June 11, that among these individuals, 657 families comprising 3,506 people returned via the Torgham border. He added that 27 families came through Spin Boldak in Kandahar province, 21 families from the Nimroz border, and 19 families via the Islam Qala crossing in Herat.

In recent months, the process of return and deportation of Afghan migrants from neighboring countries has increased, with a significant number of families entering the country daily. This ongoing trend continues despite many returnees facing serious livelihood challenges.

Three days ago, Georgette Gagnon, head of UNAMA, expressed concerns to the United Nations Security Council about the lack of housing facilities and employment opportunities for returning migrants. Despite the rising number of returns, the Taliban administration has yet to implement a clear and comprehensive plan for sustainable settlement and job creation for these families, raising further worries about their future.
