Mohammad Mohaqiq Condemns Taliban Crackdown on Herat Protesters

Mohammad Mohaqiq, leader of the Islamic Unity Party, has condemned the Taliban administration’s treatment of protesters in Herat, describing the action as “contrary to Islamic and human principles” and calling for an end to the violence. He emphasized that violating the dignity, rights, and sanctities of the people is not only not a solution to the country’s problems but also complicates the situation.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Islamic Unity Party, Mohaqiq said that coercive behaviors expand crises, dissatisfaction, and social divides. He urged the Taliban administration to cease using violence and instead pursue reasonable and lawful solutions.

According to him, ensuring peace and stability in the country depends on respecting the rights and human dignity of citizens, and without this principle, achieving national unity will not be possible. Mohaqiq added that what has made the recent events more bitter is the “bloody suppression of peaceful demonstrators in Herat,” in which several citizens were wounded or lost their lives.

Yesterday, residents of Herat held a protest march against the Taliban administration’s detention of women in parts of the city. Local sources reported that at least two people were killed when Taliban forces opened fire on the protesters.

According to reports, in recent days the Taliban administration has arrested at least 35 women from three areas of Herat city for allegedly not adhering to the dress code mandated by the administration. This incident has once again raised concerns about the Taliban’s treatment of citizens’ rights, especially those of women.
