Mine Explosion in Paktika Kills 7, Including 5 Children

The Paktika Provincial Police Command has announced that an explosion of a mine leftover from past conflicts in Bermal district has killed seven people and injured four others.
According to the statement, the incident occurred yesterday evening in the Dangarligd area of Bermal district. Information reveals that a scrap dealer attempted to cut the mine using a saw, which led to the explosion.
The source stated that among the victims were five children, highlighting once again the dangers posed by unexploded ordnance in residential areas. Afghanistan remains one of the countries where decades of war have left parts of the land threatened by leftover explosive materials.
The police command added that the injured have been transferred to medical centers for treatment. However, the continuation of such incidents indicates that the efforts for clearance and public awareness about unexploded ordnance have been insufficient, emphasizing the need for more serious action to ensure residents’ safety.
The statement urged citizens to avoid approaching mines and unexploded explosives and to report any such objects to security forces immediately.
