898 Housing Plots Distributed to Returning Refugee Families Across Seven Provinces

The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing announced that yesterday, 898 residential land plots were distributed to families of returning refugees in seven provinces of the country. According to the ministry, these plots were allocated under the permanent settlement program to eligible recipients.

In a statement released by the ministry, it was mentioned that the Permanent Settlement Committee for Refugees and Land Distribution, led by the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, was responsible for implementing this process. This move is part of a program aimed at providing permanent living conditions for returning families.

According to the information provided, 305 families in Nangarhar, 106 families in Farah, 127 families in Helmand, 50 families in Ghazni, 100 families in Nimroz, 100 families in Paktika, and 110 families in Faryab received land plots.

The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing added that with this distribution, the total number of plots allocated to returning refugees across the country has reached 40,413. However, no details were provided regarding the selection process for beneficiaries, distribution criteria, or the status of infrastructure services in these areas. This lack of information has made transparency and oversight of the settlement process a serious demand from returning families and monitoring agencies.

In recent years, thousands of Afghan citizens returning from neighboring countries have faced significant challenges related to shelter, employment, and access to basic services. The land distribution process can only lead to sustainable settlement if it is accompanied by the provision of essential facilities such as water, electricity, education, and health services in the designated areas.
