Criticism Mounts Over Taliban’s Handling of Afghan Pilgrims at Hajj

As the Hajj pilgrimage takes place, the release of a video showing the conditions of Afghan pilgrims has sparked a fresh wave of widespread criticism across social media platforms. Users, sharing the footage, have accused the Taliban administration and the responsible Hajj organizations of incompetence in managing and organizing the affairs of the pilgrims.

Critics say that this year’s Afghan pilgrims have faced multiple problems in various aspects. According to them, a lack of coordination, weak guidance, and the absence of proper planning have caused many pilgrims to experience confusion and difficulties.

Previously, another video circulated widely on social media showing an individual introduced by the Taliban administration as a pilgrim guide wearing slippers tied to his waist—a move that drew heavy criticism. Users described this image as a sign of unprofessionalism among those appointed to guide the pilgrims.

Critics believe that appointing individuals lacking the necessary expertise and experience in Hajj affairs has left Afghan pilgrims without adequate knowledge about the rituals and organization of their pilgrimage. Meanwhile, Hajj, as one of the most significant religious duties for Muslims, requires precise management, professional guidance, and systematic attention to the pilgrims’ needs.

At the same time, some pilgrims have also complained about the quality of food, transportation services, and accommodation facilities during this year’s pilgrimage. These complaints come amid expectations that responsible institutions should facilitate the performance of rituals with ease and dignity for citizens, given the spiritual and religious significance of this journey.
