Taliban officials have announced the arrest of 68 individuals connected to drug trafficking and sales in ten provinces across the country. These arrests were made during separate operations conducted by police forces in Nangarhar, Jawzjan, Balkh, Kandahar, Laghman, Ghazni, Paktia, Parwan, Kapisa, and Samangan provinces.
According to released information, approximately two thousand narcotic pills, along with quantities of opium, crystal meth, and hashish, were seized from these individuals. However, specific details regarding the exact amounts of each type of drug and the possible trafficking networks involved have not been disclosed.
Officials stated that after completing the legal files, the arrested individuals will be referred to judicial and prosecutorial institutions. Nevertheless, no clear information has been published about the transparency of the legal proceedings or the detainees’ access to their legal rights.
Afghanistan has long been one of the countries deeply affected by drug production and trafficking, with residents across many provinces suffering from the social and health consequences of this issue. Experts have consistently emphasized that an effective fight against drugs requires comprehensive programs, transparency in implementation, and fair judicial processes.
