Former Afghan President Karzai Honors Ayatollah Fayyaz’s Enduring Contributions

Hamid Karzai, the former president of Afghanistan, expressed his condolences on the passing of Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Muhammad Ishaq Fayyaz, praising his scholarly status and lasting services to Afghanistan. He described the religious authority as one of the “hardworking sons of Afghanistan” who, through persistent effort, attained the highest scientific ranks in the Shia world.
In his message, Karzai highlighted Ayatollah Fayyaz’s academic life, noting that as a youth, he traveled to the Najaf seminary in Iraq to study religious sciences. After years of dedication and perseverance, he reached the high position of marja’ (religious authority). Najaf is considered one of the most significant centers for religious education in the Shia world.
The former president further emphasized that the late Ayatollah Fayyaz was a prominent and leading scholar within the Shia community. Beyond his religious authority for many Afghan followers, he provided valuable and enduring services to the people and the country.
Karzai called the loss of this religious scholar a great tragedy and extended his sympathies to his family, students, and followers.
