UNRWA Warns of Waste and Disease Crisis in Gaza Amid Fuel Shortages

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has warned that the widespread accumulation of waste and sewage overflow in Gaza is increasing the risk of various diseases. According to the agency, fuel shortages, tents, and medicine severely limit the ability of emergency teams to manage the situation.

UNRWA stated that its health, sanitation, and shelter teams operate daily across different areas of Gaza to prevent the spread of diseases that can be transmitted by rodents and parasites such as lice, fleas, mites, and bedbugs. However, the lack of sufficient facilities and equipment has made an effective response challenging.

The UN agency emphasized that if broad access for aid and supplies is allowed, it can provide more services to those in need. UNRWA has called on the international community to ensure sustained access to humanitarian assistance.

Gaza, which has been facing a humanitarian crisis for months, is now grappling with serious challenges in health services and environmental sanitation, raising concerns about the potential consequences for civilians.
