EU Allocates Additional €50,000 Aid to Flood Victims in Afghanistan

The European Union has announced a new allocation of €50,000 to support residents affected by recent floods in Afghanistan. This aid, funded through the emergency response budget for natural disasters, will be distributed to those in need via the Afghan Red Crescent Society.
The EU’s humanitarian aid department for South Asia stated in a press release that flooding across several provinces has severely impacted local communities, further exacerbating Afghanistan’s already critical humanitarian situation.
According to the statement, the new assistance will facilitate access for flood victims to cash, temporary shelter, drinking water, and healthcare services. This move comes amid many families in affected areas facing a shortage of basic necessities.
Previously, on April 24 of this year, the EU had allocated €175,000 to support flood victims in Afghanistan. With this additional aid, the total EU assistance for 2024 now amounts to €225,000.
Despite Afghanistan being under Taliban rule and contending with widespread economic challenges and limited access to essential services, continued humanitarian aid is regarded as vital to mitigating the impacts of natural disasters.
