Afghan Athletes Honored at Taliban-Run Embassy in Moscow

The Taliban-run Afghan Embassy in Moscow announced that several Afghan athletes participating in the 8th World Olympic Youth Forum in Russia were honored by the embassy’s ambassador. According to a report published on the embassy’s X page, Maulvi Gul Hassan Hassan, the Taliban-appointed ambassador in Moscow, met with these athletes in his office. The sports delegation, led by Maulvi Ahmadullah Wathiq, the general director of the Taliban’s Olympic, Physical Education, and Sports Department, had traveled to Russia to attend the global forum.

During the meeting, the Afghan ambassador in Moscow expressed appreciation for the athletes’ presence and representation at an international event, describing sports as a means to bring nations closer together and to present a positive image of the country.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the athletes were honored for their efforts and achievements, and were wished greater success in upcoming competitions.
