Taliban Representative in Tehran Discusses Afghan Migrants and Herat-Mazar-i-Sharif Railway Project

Molavi Fazl Mohammad Haqqani, head of the Taliban office in Tehran, met with Mohammad Reza Bahrami, Assistant Minister and Director General for South Asia at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to prioritize discussions on the challenges faced by Afghan migrants and the Herat–Mazar-i-Sharif railway project.
According to released information, the two sides also exchanged views on economic and trade cooperation between Afghanistan and Iran. The Herat–Mazar-i-Sharif railway, a key infrastructure project in northern and western Afghanistan, could significantly enhance connectivity across different regions of the country and facilitate regional trade if completed.
Issues concerning Afghan migrants residing in Iran were also central to the talks. In recent years, legal, residency, and livelihood challenges faced by Afghan migrants have become serious concerns for Afghan families. It is expected that the Taliban administration, alongside diplomatic consultations, will propose practical solutions to improve the conditions of Afghan citizens abroad.
Additionally, some internal matters related to the Taliban office in Tehran were discussed during the meeting. No further details on the practical outcomes of these discussions have been released.
