Finnish President Says US Has No Plans to Withdraw Troops from Europe

The President of Finland stated that the United States has no intention of removing its military forces from European countries, as it considers this presence part of a broader strategy to maintain and expand its global influence.

In an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Sauli Niinistö emphasized that the US military presence in Europe holds strategic importance for Washington. According to him, the United States needs strong bases in Europe to project power in regions such as the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.

He stated, “America will not leave Europe. If it intends to exert its power in other parts of the world, strong infrastructure and bases here are essential.”

Niinistö also added that the deployment of American forces in Europe is defined more within the framework of the US’s grand strategy to maintain its position as a global power rather than solely for the protection of European countries.

The Finnish President further called on European countries to take greater responsibility for their own security and to play a more active role in strengthening their defense capabilities.
