Suicide Car Bomb in Bannu Kills Four Police Officers, Raises Fears of More Casualties

Pakistani media have reported that at least four police officers were killed in a suicide car bomb explosion in Bannu, located in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The incident took place at a security checkpoint in the city, sparking concerns over rising casualties.

Reuters quoted a police official, Sajjad Khan, who said that as many as 15 more officers manning a security post on the outskirts of Bannu might also have lost their lives. The final death toll has not yet been officially confirmed.

According to the official, a gunfight broke out at the scene following the explosion. Security sources added that attackers used drones during the assault.

A group calling itself the “Ittehad al-Mujahideen” has claimed responsibility for the attack. Bannu is among the insecure areas in northwest Pakistan that have experienced repeated attacks on security forces in recent years.
