Yusuf Zai Criticizes Dismissal of Naemani as Sign of Taliban’s Disregard for Expertise

Sami Yusuf Zai, an Afghan journalist and political activist, reacted to the recent changes in the Taliban administration, describing the dismissal of Hamdullah Naemani from the ministry as a sign of neglecting experience and expertise. He questioned the criteria for appointing officials in this structure: is it administrative knowledge and experience or merely strict ideological loyalty?
Yusuf Zai, quoting a senior United Nations official, wrote that only a limited number of Taliban figures, including Amir Khan Muttaqi, Hamdullah Naemani, and Zabihullah Mujahid, possess the ability to engage in logical dialogue and constructive discussion. According to him, most officials of this group turn official meetings into ceremonial and unproductive assemblies instead of addressing serious issues and resolving problems, lacking the ability to present logical arguments.
He considered the removal of individuals who had more administrative background and experience than others as questionable and added that replacing them with people lacking recognized experience in international diplomacy and management shows that professionalism has no defined place in this structure.
These remarks come as extensive changes were announced today across various sectors of the Taliban administration. Yusuf Zai believes that individuals appointed to positions are unfamiliar faces at the level of international relations and administrative management; an issue that could raise concerns about the efficiency and accountability of this structure.
