Iraq’s Prime Minister-Designate Al-Zaydi Begins Political Consultations in Kurdistan Region

Ali Al-Zaydi, Iraq’s prime minister-designate, arrived today, Saturday, in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, continuing his efforts to form a new government. He is set to meet with political leaders of the region.
According to released information, Al-Zaydi’s first itinerary includes meetings with Masoud Barzani, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party; Nechirvan Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Region; and Masrour Barzani, prime minister of the Kurdistan Region. These meetings are part of efforts to gain the support of major political factions in the process of forming the new cabinet.
A well-informed source stated that following the Erbil meetings, Al-Zaydi will travel to Sulaymaniyah to also hold talks with Bafel Talabani, head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. There is also the possibility of further meetings with other parties represented in the Iraqi parliament in this province.
The Coordination Framework bloc had previously nominated Ali Al-Zaydi as its candidate for prime minister, and Iraqi President Nezar Amidi officially tasked him with forming the new government. This current trip takes place amid ongoing consultations between Baghdad and Erbil over several shared political and administrative issues.
