Wakhan Corridor Road in Afghanistan’s Northeast Reaches 74% Completion in Second Phase

The Deputy Economic Minister of the Taliban administration has announced significant progress in the construction of the Wakhan Corridor road, with the first phase 60% complete and the second phase 74% complete.

According to him, the first phase of this project extends from the Broghil border crossing in Badakhshan province to the Yamgan district, while the second phase continues from Yamgan to the Chinese border. This route is considered one of the key infrastructure projects in northeastern Afghanistan.

The Wakhan Corridor, which connects Afghanistan through Badakhshan to China’s Xinjiang region, is geographically one of the region’s strategic routes. The Taliban administration has stated that upon completion of this road, it will facilitate the expansion of trade, transit, and regional connectivity between Afghanistan and China.

However, no details have been released regarding the budget, funding sources, or an exact timeline for the full operation of the project. Experts believe that transparency in the implementation of major infrastructure projects and ensuring fair access to economic opportunities for local residents are issues that need serious attention.
