Putin Expresses Special Appreciation for Message from Iran’s New Leader at St. Petersburg Meeting

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Monday that he had received a message last week from Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, the new leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution. Putin made this remark during a meeting with Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, in the city of St. Petersburg.

According to the text released by the Kremlin, the meeting took place at the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library. During the session, Putin asked the Iranian foreign minister to convey his gratitude to Iran’s Supreme Leader for the message and to extend his best wishes for his health and well-being.

In another part of his remarks, the Russian president referred to regional developments, stating that the people of Iran are striving for their independence and sovereignty. He emphasized that Moscow is ready to take actions that support Iran’s and the region’s interests and contribute to achieving peace.

In recent months, some Western media outlets have speculated about the health condition of Iran’s new revolutionary leader. Meanwhile, Reuters, citing anonymous sources, reported that he participates in senior officials’ meetings via audio conference and plays a role in decision-making on important issues, including the war developments and new talks with Washington.
