Fifth ISIS Attack Targets Merchants in Deir ez-Zor

Local sources in Syria have reported that ISIS militants launched an attack on the Al-Jawajeh area on the eastern outskirts of Deir ez-Zor province. The assault resulted in financial losses for residents and merchants in the region. This incident is said to be the latest in a series of similar attacks in the area.
According to released information, the attackers used machine guns and explosives during the raid, targeting the property of Syrian citizens. Informed sources added that the armed individuals chanted slogans supporting their organization and threatened local residents that they would return.
This marks the fifth similar attack against merchants and investors in the area since the beginning of the current year. Reports indicate that ISIS carries out such assaults to instill fear and extort residents, exerting additional economic and psychological pressure on the population.
Deir ez-Zor, located in eastern Syria near the Iraqi border, was one of ISIS’s main strongholds in past years. Despite political changes in Damascus and the rise of the Jolani regime, insecurity and instability persist in parts of the country. So far, no effective and lasting measures have been implemented to ensure full security in these areas, heightening concerns among residents and economic activists.
