Taliban’s Haqqani Meets Chinese Ambassador to Discuss Beijing’s Role in Regional Challenges

Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s Interior Minister, met with Jiang Xing, the Chinese Ambassador to Kabul, to discuss the expansion of bilateral relations and Beijing’s role in managing regional challenges. The meeting took place on Monday, 7th of Sowr.
Abdul Matin Qaneh, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Interior Ministry, stated that the meeting emphasized the importance of joint cooperation and China’s contribution to advancing regional solutions. According to him, both sides also exchanged views on the regional situation and political interactions.
Haqqani claimed during the meeting that the Taliban administration is committed to strengthening peace and stability in the region. This comes amid more than three years of serious political, security, and extensive human rights challenges in Afghanistan under Taliban rule, with no comprehensive and widely accepted political framework yet established for the country’s system.
The meeting took place shortly after China hosted talks between the Taliban delegation and Pakistan in the city of Urumqi about two weeks ago. The Taliban described those discussions as “positive” and stressed the need for responsible behavior from Pakistan; however, no specific details about the practical outcomes of those talks have been released.
