Netanyahu Cabinet Preparing Large-Scale Gaza Offensive for Election Goals, Israeli Analyst Reveals

An Israeli military analyst has revealed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet is preparing a plan to launch a large-scale attack on Gaza, a move reportedly driven by political and electoral objectives. Amos Harel, military correspondent for Haaretz newspaper, wrote that this development is accompanied by media groundwork and heightened tensions on the southern front.
According to him, the Israeli army is acting in a way that violates ceasefire lines to create the necessary conditions for rekindling the war. The analyst emphasized that some military officials are waiting for a “mistake” by the Palestinian resistance to use it as a pretext for initiating a widespread conflict.
Harel added that Netanyahu, by maintaining a certain level of tension in Gaza while utilizing relative calm on other fronts, seeks to strengthen his political position ahead of the October elections. He believes that continuing military operations could overshadow past failures against the Palestinian resistance and influence Israel’s internal political climate.
Meanwhile, reports indicate ongoing assaults on residential areas in Gaza, attacks that have so far resulted in the martyrdom and injury of thousands of Palestinians. This situation has drawn criticism from human rights organizations, raising concerns about the humanitarian consequences of the war.
The report also notes that in the West Bank, plans are underway to expand settlements and fully cancel the Oslo Accords. Bezalel Smotrich, Israel’s finance minister, is leading a project which, within the cabinet, has approved the establishment of dozens of new Zionist settlements—an action that could exacerbate tensions in the region.
In response, the Palestinian resistance has declared its readiness to discuss the next phase, provided the blockade on Gaza ends and humanitarian aid access for approximately two million Palestinians residing there is guaranteed. Israel has so far rejected the humanitarian conditions proposed to alleviate pressure on civilians.
