80 Arrested in Multiple Provinces in Afghanistan on Drug Trafficking Charges

Officials from the Anti-Narcotics Police have announced that during separate operations in several provinces of the country, 80 individuals have been arrested on charges of drug trafficking and sales. These arrests took place in the provinces of Kandahar, Kunar, Nangarhar, Kapisa, Kunduz, Samangan, Bamyan, Parwan, Laghman, Baghlan, Jawzjan, Farah, and Khost.

According to sources, more than eight kilograms of hashish, 3,600 narcotic pills, and a quantity of methamphetamine were seized from the detainees. Further details regarding the identities of those arrested and the exact amount of methamphetamine have not been released.

The fight against narcotics remains one of the serious challenges in Afghanistan, a country that has faced widespread production and trafficking of drugs in recent years. Despite repeated statements from the Taliban administration about curbing the cultivation and trafficking of narcotics, reports indicate that this issue continues in parts of the country.

Experts believe that effective combat against drug trafficking requires comprehensive economic programs and the creation of alternative livelihood opportunities for residents of vulnerable areas—an objective that cannot be achieved without transparent and accountable management.
