EU Allocates €175,000 Aid to Flood Victims in Afghanistan

The European Union has announced a contribution of €175,000 to assist those affected by recent floods in Afghanistan, covering around 12,000 people across several provinces. According to a statement released on Thursday, 3rd of Sawr, this funding targets the provinces of Badghis, Farah, Ghor, Helmand, Herat, Kandahar, Logar, and Uruzgan — areas severely impacted by the floods. The statement noted that the aid will be delivered through the Afghanistan Red Cross Committee, aiming to provide cash assistance to meet the urgent needs of affected families. Emergency shelter items such as tents, blankets, and other essential household goods, as well as primary healthcare services, will also be supplied to those affected. The European Union emphasized that it remains one of the largest humanitarian donors in Afghanistan, having allocated over €162 million to humanitarian partners so far this year. Earlier this year, an additional €250,000 was designated to support the Afghanistan Red Crescent Society’s response to those displaced by ongoing conflicts. The statement further highlighted that over the past years, the EU has funded close to 50 humanitarian flights, including three this year alone, delivering 270 tons of nutritional supplies to Afghanistan.
