Concerns Over Security Rise Amid Two Major Thefts in Baghlan and Dasht-e Barchi

Local sources in Baghlan report that armed men raided the home of a tribal elder around midnight on Friday, stealing three million Afghanis in cash and half a kilogram of gold. According to these sources, Ghulam Hazrat, the tribal elder of the area, sustained a minor injury during the incident. This event occurred at approximately 1 a.m. on the 28th of Hamal in the Farghanbal Qeshlaq Boostan area of Khost district in Baghlan province. So far, local Taliban authorities in Baghlan have not commented on the matter.
In a separate incident, armed assailants attacked a tailoring workshop in the Dasht-e Barchi area west of Kabul on the morning of Tuesday, the 25th of Hamal. According to sources, the attackers stole nearly one million Afghanis in cash. This robbery took place on the day salaries were to be disbursed. The workshop provides employment for about 150 women in western Kabul.
Security camera footage obtained by media outlets shows the moment the armed men entered and attacked the workshop. During the clash with the thieves, two employees were taken to the hospital. Sources say the number of assailants was about twelve, and following complaints by the workshop’s management, they were handed over to the 6th police precinct of Kabul.
However, sources accuse the chief of the criminal department of the 6th security district under the Taliban administration in Kabul of releasing the thieves. This allegation comes as Taliban police officials in Kabul have yet to respond to the incident. The increase in robbery cases across several provinces has raised concerns among residents about the security situation and the effectiveness of responsible institutions’ responses.
