Amnesty International Denounces Terrorism Charges Against Former Pakistani MP Ali Wazir as Fabricated

Amnesty International has declared that the allegations against Ali Wazir, a former member of Pakistan’s parliament and a leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement, are fabricated. Despite several years of repeated detentions, Wazir remains imprisoned based on these fabricated charges.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the organization emphasized that the Pakistani government is using terrorism accusations to silence Wazir and prevent his activism. According to Amnesty International, this move is part of ongoing pressures applied against him since 2020.
The statement further reports that Ali Wazir has been detained multiple times in recent years and faced numerous legal cases. Amnesty expressed concern over this trend, viewing it as part of a broader clampdown on civil activists in Pakistan.
Ali Wazir is recognized as a prominent figure of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement, a group that has focused on human rights advocacy and protesting what it describes as violations against the Pashtun community. Amnesty International stressed that Wazir’s work has been within the framework of peaceful civil activism and human rights support, and he should not face prosecution for these activities.
