UN Chief Condemns Attack on Peacekeepers in Lebanon

Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, strongly condemned the attack on UN peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon, which resulted in the death of one French soldier and injuries to three others. He emphasized that the attack on peacekeepers is a serious violation of international missions aimed at maintaining stability and security.
The UN Secretary-General’s office, in a statement, described the incident as alarming and stressed the necessity of ensuring the security of UNIFIL forces (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon). These forces are responsible, based on Security Council resolutions, for monitoring the security situation in parts of southern Lebanon.
Meanwhile, the French government has held the Lebanese Hezbollah movement responsible for the attack. However, Hezbollah has previously denied any involvement in the incident.
Southern Lebanon has witnessed sporadic tensions in recent years between various domestic and regional actors. The UN peacekeeping forces were deployed to prevent the spread of conflict and support stability in these areas.
