Massive Mourner Turnout Marks Start of Farewell Ceremony for Martyred Imam in Tehran

The official farewell ceremony for the Martyred Imam began at 6 a.m. today at Tehran’s Musalla and is scheduled to continue until 8 p.m. tomorrow. From the early hours of dawn, large crowds of mourners gathered at the venue to pay their respects and participate in the rituals.

According to reports, the grieving public entered the main hall of the Musalla while chest-beating and some with mud smeared on their heads and faces, chanting mourning slogans. The atmosphere at the Musalla has witnessed a substantial presence of participants since the early morning hours.

As per the announced schedule, the funeral prayer for the pure body of the Martyred Imam will be held on Sunday morning at the Musalla. The funeral procession is set for Monday morning, 15th of Tir, in Tehran.

Subsequent events include transferring the sacred body on Tuesday, 16th of Tir, to the city of Qom for the funeral and prayer. Then, on Wednesday, 17th of Tir, the body will be moved for circumambulation and funeral rites to the shrine of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) in Najaf as well as the holy shrines of Karbala.

Continuing these ceremonies, on Thursday, 18th of Tir, the pure body of the Martyred Imam of the nation will be laid to rest at the shrine of Imam Reza (peace be upon him) in Mashhad.
