Water Check Dam Commissioned in Spin Boldak District, Kandahar

A water check dam, constructed with funding from the United Nations Development Programme, has been commissioned in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province.

Dost Mohammad Saeed, head of the Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department in Kandahar, stated that the project was implemented in the Anjargi village and cost approximately 12.5 million Afghanis.

According to local officials, the check dam has a storage capacity of about 700,000 cubic meters of water and is expected to play a significant role in water resource management, reducing flood damage, and providing irrigation water to surrounding areas.

Local residents are hopeful that the operation of this water facility will alleviate some of their water shortages and livelihood challenges. These issues have grown increasingly concerning in recent years due to climate change and the Taliban administration’s neglect of rural infrastructure, causing widespread worries among farmers.
