Pakistani Opposition Leader Says Afghanistan and Pakistan Are Not Enemies

Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the leader of Pakistan’s opposition, stated that Afghanistan and Pakistan are not enemies and that relations between the two countries should be based on friendship and mutual respect.

Speaking at a press conference and referring to recent clashes between Pakistani military forces and the Taliban administration, he emphasized that the people of both countries should not become victims of political and military tensions. According to him, history shows that Afghanistan was never colonized, whereas Pakistan has experienced prolonged periods of military rule.

Achakzai stressed that if Afghanistan harbored hostile intentions toward Pakistan, it had ample opportunity to take military action during the 1965 and 1971 wars between Pakistan and India, but it did not do so.

These remarks come amid rising tensions in certain border areas over recent months, raising concerns about their potential impact on bilateral relations. Experts believe that reducing tensions and engaging in dialogue can help prevent further instability in the region.
