Construction of Herat Cement Project Officially Underway, Set to Boost Domestic Production

The Information and Culture Directorate of Herat has announced that the construction phase of the Herat Cement Project has officially begun, with plans to complete it within the next 14 months and move into production.
According to the released statement, the head of the Golbahar Group of Companies, along with the project engineers, told the Herat governor during a meeting that the implementation process has started and the project will be finished on schedule.
Officials have stated that once completed, the factory will have a daily production capacity of 3,000 tons of cement, which could fulfill about 60 percent of the country’s domestic demand. It is also claimed that the project’s establishment will create employment opportunities for thousands of people.
Herat is considered one of the key economic provinces in the west of the country, and the development of such projects could help reduce reliance on imported building materials. However, experts continuously emphasize the need for transparency in contracts, investment methods, and ensuring the Taliban administration fulfills its commitments, as several large projects in past years have faced delays or been halted.
