Heavy Snowfall Closes Daikundi-Kabul Highway and All District Routes

Local officials in Daikundi province report that due to heavy snowfall last night and Tuesday, the Daikundi-Kabul highway and all connecting routes between districts and the provincial center have been closed to traffic.
According to these officials, Qunaq Pass and other mountainous routes are included in these restrictions, and currently vehicle traffic is not possible on these roads.
Ikramullah Rafi, head of Daikundi’s Public Works Department, stated that in some of the blocked passes, snow accumulation has reached about 60 centimeters, and until snow removal operations begin and progress, passenger vehicles will not be allowed to move.
Daikundi is one of Afghanistan’s mountainous provinces that regularly faces road closures during the winter season; a situation that challenges residents’ access to essential services and travel between districts.
