Former National Movement Commander Killed by Taliban Forces in Jowzjan

Local sources in Khwaja Du Koh district of Jowzjan province report that Taliban forces pulled out “Yusuf Commandant,” a former commander affiliated with Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum, from a wedding gathering and shot him dead in the head.

According to these sources, the incident occurred on Wednesday night, January 6, in an area of Khwaja Du Koh district, where Yusuf Commandant was attending the wedding of his relatives.

Local sources added that Yusuf Commandant had been released from Taliban custody about 10 days prior and subsequently crossed the border from Iran back into Afghanistan. No further details about the reasons for his arrest and release have been provided by Taliban officials.

This incident follows growing concerns over violent and extrajudicial actions by the Taliban administration against former military figures. Previously, reports indicated that the Taliban attacked “Shir Commandant,” a former commander of the National Movement Party, in Shiberghan city; he survived the attack.
