US Airstrikes Hit Caracas Amid Explosions and Power Outages

Multiple news sources reported early this morning a series of intense explosions in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. These blasts were accompanied by rising smoke, the flight of fighter jets and helicopters, and power and internet outages in parts of the city.
According to Venezuelan media and international networks, several key sites—including military bases, a port, the Igroti Airport, and the Fort Tiuna military complex, which houses the Defense Ministry—were targeted in the airstrikes. At least seven to eight explosions were reported across different areas of the capital.
Al Mayadeen’s correspondent said that the attacks were not confined to Caracas alone; other areas such as La Guaira near the airport and some coastal regions were also targeted. The correspondent noted that the intensity of the assaults caused power and internet disruptions in parts of the capital, with fighter jets continuing to fly at low altitude.
In response, Venezuela’s Foreign Minister condemned the attacks as a clear violation of the United Nations Charter and identified the United States as the main actor behind them. He emphasized that any attempt to change Venezuela’s political system would fail.
Meanwhile, a Fox News correspondent, citing US government officials, reported that the US military is conducting operations against Venezuela. Other media outlets such as Russia Today, Reuters, and The Associated Press also reported widespread fighter jet flights, helicopter presence over Caracas, and power outages near several military bases.
Gustavo Petro, President of Colombia, confirmed the targeting of Caracas and called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations and the Organization of American States to address the situation. These developments come amid increased US military presence near Venezuela’s coastlines over recent weeks.
