UNICEF Provides Cash Aid to Drought-Affected Families in Takhar, Afghanistan

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has stated that drought remains one of the most serious challenges for families in Afghanistan, directly threatening the health and immunity of children.
According to the announcement, in June 2025, with the support of the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (UNCERF), UNICEF was able to provide cash assistance to nearly three thousand families affected by drought in Takhar province, helping them manage some of the severe drought’s consequences.
UNICEF emphasized that these funds aim to strengthen families’ capacity to meet urgent needs, especially those related to children, under challenging climatic conditions.
While international organizations strive to fill humanitarian gaps, critics say the Taliban administration has yet to present a transparent and sustainable plan to address climate crises and their impacts on vulnerable populations, particularly children. This raises concerns about the continued reliance on foreign aid.
