Early Action Against Drought Can Save Lives in Afghanistan, Says UN OCHA

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has stated that early and preventive measures against drought could save the lives of thousands of Afghans and prevent the worsening of humanitarian consequences.
OCHA expressed its gratitude to financial donors, noting that their support has enabled the delivery of vital services and immediate assistance to vulnerable communities—before the most severe impacts of the drought affect people’s livelihoods.
According to the agency’s assessment, anticipatory actions include resource preparedness, strengthening community resilience, and delivering aid in a timely manner. This approach holds particular significance in a country like Afghanistan, which is highly vulnerable to climate change.
Meanwhile, many areas of the country—especially rural regions—continue to face limited access to water, health services, and livelihood resources. The need for continued and expanded humanitarian assistance is more urgent than ever.
