52 Kilograms of Opium Seized in Herat, Taliban Authorities Say

Herat police command, under Taliban control, announced the seizure of 52 kilograms of opium during an intelligence operation conducted in the province.
According to Ghulam Nabi Nabizadah, spokesperson for the Herat police command, the narcotics had been skillfully concealed inside a private vehicle. Security forces identified and confiscated the drugs following an investigation.
Nabizadah added that one person has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in custody. No further details have been released about the detainee’s identity or legal proceedings.
This development comes amid ongoing criticisms by watchdog groups and local residents, who have repeatedly questioned the Taliban administration’s transparency and accountability in counter-narcotics efforts, despite its stated commitment to combating drug trafficking.
