Severe Rainfall Warning Issued for 24 Provinces in Afghanistan on Sunday

The Meteorology Department of the Taliban’s Ministry of Transport and Aviation has announced that severe rainfall accompanied by the possibility of flash floods is expected tomorrow, Sunday, in 24 provinces across the country. According to the department’s newsletter, the provinces included in this warning are Herat, Farah, Nimruz, Badghis, Faryab, Jawzjan, Balkh, Sar-e Pol, Ghor, Daikundi, Uruzgan, Helmand, Kandahar, Zabul, Samangan, Takhar, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Logar, Paktika, Khost, Kunar, and Nuristan. Rainfall levels in various areas are predicted to range between 10 to 35 millimeters. Authorities have urged residents of these provinces to take precautionary measures during the heavy rains and to avoid approaching flood-prone areas. Due to its geographical location and the mountainous terrain in large parts of the country, Afghanistan is consistently at risk of sudden flash floods during rainy seasons—events that have caused significant human and financial losses in past years.
