Construction Begins on Overpass Bridge in Front of Kabul Governor’s Office

Construction of an overpass bridge for vehicle traffic began today, Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in front of the Kabul Governor’s Office. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion in one of the city’s busiest areas.

At the inauguration ceremony, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Economic Head of the Taliban Prime Minister’s Office, highlighted the increasing population, expanding economic activities, and the current condition of Kabul. He stressed the urgent need for urban development, transportation infrastructure, and city order. Baradar stated that Kabul must be developed based on a systematic and modern urban plan.

The Taliban official also praised the Kabul municipality’s efforts in traffic regulation and urban order, describing these actions as important steps. However, urban experts consistently emphasize that temporary projects without a transparent and comprehensive urban plan cannot sustainably resolve the deeper transportation and disorder issues in Kabul.

The Deputy Economic Head of the Prime Minister’s Office urged Kabul residents to cooperate in keeping the city clean and maintaining order, noting that this responsibility requires effective accountability and planning from relevant authorities alongside citizen participation.

According to the provided information, the overpass bridge will be 235 meters long, 18 meters wide, and 6.8 meters high. The estimated construction cost is 462 million Afghanis, with a planned completion timeline of 15 months. Transparent, standard, and timely implementation of the project is among the main demands of Kabul’s residents.
