Taliban Accepts Credentials of Qatar’s New Ambassador in Kabul

In a formal ceremony held at the Gulkhana Palace in Kabul, the Taliban administration accepted the credentials of Murdif bin Ali Al-Qasouti as Qatar’s new ambassador to Afghanistan. The event was attended by Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, the Taliban’s Prime Minister, Taliban Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, and Mullah Abdul Wasi, Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister.

During the launch of his diplomatic mission, Qatar’s new envoy highlighted his country’s previous support for Afghanistan and affirmed Doha’s commitment to peace, stability, and progress for the Afghan people. He also pledged ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation.

Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund expressed hope for improved ties between the two countries and praised Qatar’s role during Afghanistan’s difficult periods. He asked the ambassador to convey his goodwill message to the Qatari leadership and stated, “We hope this cooperation will deepen.”

Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi also welcomed the appointment of an ambassador familiar with the internal structure of the Taliban administration and wished him success in his new mission.

While diplomatic engagement remains a feature of Afghanistan’s regional relations, the presence of foreign representatives in Kabul continues to raise concerns among human rights and political organizations. Such meetings are seen by many as potentially lending implicit legitimacy to the Taliban administration, which, since taking power, has been widely accused of severely violating the basic rights of citizens—especially women and minorities.
