Land Distribution Begins for Returning Migrants in Wardak Province

Local officials in Wardak province have announced the official start of land distribution for families of returning migrants in the region, a program aimed at providing housing for those who have come back. Mullah Khairullah Khairkhah, the governor of Wardak, urged relevant departments in a meeting held for this purpose to prioritize addressing the needs of returning families and ensuring their access to essential services. He emphasized the necessity of coordination among directorates to implement the process effectively.

At the same meeting, Mawlawi Najibullah Hayat Haqqani, the Minister of Urban Development and Housing in the Taliban administration, stated that the program targets migrants who were forcibly returned to Afghanistan from neighboring countries between November 2023 and 2025. According to him, the housing complex is located in the center of Maydan Shahr and is planned over 800 jeribs (approximately 168 hectares) of land with 1,200 residential plots.

The Minister added that land distribution will be conducted based on forms A, B, and C, with the process organized and supervised by the ministry. He also promised that the settlement would be equipped with facilities such as a school, clinic, mosque, and a drinking water network.

However, past experiences have shown that many similar programs for returning migrants faced challenges including delays in implementation, lack of sufficient services, and absence of transparency. It is expected that the Taliban administration will go beyond mere announcements and respond to the real and urgent needs of families who remain vulnerable after their forced return.
