US and Venezuela Face Verbal Tensions Over Country’s Governance

Tensions between Washington and Caracas have escalated as the US Secretary of War announced that Donald Trump, the current US president, will set the terms for Venezuela’s governance; remarks that were met with a direct response from Venezuela’s interim president.

Pete Hegst, the US Secretary of War, told CBS that Trump plays a central role in decisions concerning Venezuela’s future. According to him, the US will control subsequent developments in the country. Without naming a specific nation, he added that no foreign power will be allowed to establish a foothold in the hemisphere where the US is located.

Hegst further praised Trump, claiming the US president is capable of “dictating” the course of Washington’s future actions. Observers interpret this stance as a sign of the US’s interventionist approach in the affairs of other countries.

In response, Delcy Rodríguez, who has been temporarily vested with the powers of Nicolás Maduro, rejected these statements and declared that Venezuela will never be a colony of any country. She emphasized that the current administration in Venezuela remains intact and is prepared to defend the nation against any challenges.

The interim president of Venezuela also stated that no military aggression against the country’s territory will be permitted and that the independence and future of coming generations will be protected. According to her, the Venezuelan people have withstood external pressures and interventions and will continue on this path.
