Taliban Detain Three Sons of Former Police Chief in Uruzgan

Local sources in Uruzgan province report that Taliban forces have detained three sons of General Matiullah, who served as the provincial police chief during the previous Republic-era government. The individuals—Waheedullah, Waris, and Naveedullah—were reportedly arrested on November 17 from their home in Tarinkot, the provincial capital.
According to local sources who spoke to Etilaat Roz newspaper, the reason behind the arrests remains unclear. However, it has been reported that Taliban forces seized an unspecified quantity of weapons and ammunition during the raid. The exact type and amount of the confiscated arms have not been disclosed.
The Taliban’s provincial police command in Uruzgan confirmed the arrests in a statement, noting that the operation followed the discovery of weapons and ammunition at a residence. While the statement did not mention the names of the detainees, it acknowledged that the confiscated items were found in the home of a former military officer.
In the absence of independent judicial institutions operating in the country, such arbitrary and unsubstantiated detentions by the Taliban have raised concerns among families and human rights advocates. General Matiullah’s family has not issued an official response, but local residents are calling for clarity on the fate of the detainees and urging the Taliban to act with transparency and accountability.
