Taliban’s Amir Khan Muttaqi Says India Gave Him a Warm Welcome

Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting Foreign Minister in the Taliban administration, said that during his recent trip to India, he received a warm welcome from the country’s officials.

He stated yesterday in a conversation with reporters that the relations between Afghanistan and India are historic and expanding, adding that increased visits between the two countries could strengthen these ties.

Muttaqi also mentioned that the volume of trade exchanges between Afghanistan and India has now exceeded one billion dollars. He emphasized expanding cooperation in the fields of economy and culture.

These remarks come at a time when the Taliban administration has not been recognized by India, and many countries in the region and worldwide continue to call for an inclusive government in Afghanistan. Nevertheless, the Taliban are trying to gain international legitimacy through foreign visits and official talks.

International relations experts stress that relying solely on economic exchanges without changes in domestic policies, especially regarding human rights and political participation, cannot lead to a genuine improvement in Afghanistan’s position in the global system.
