Pakistan Accuses India of Supporting Taliban Attack Along Afghan Border

Following armed clashes along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border last night, Muhammad Sadiq, Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to hold the Taliban directly responsible for the attack on Pakistani military positions.
He claimed that the Taliban, along with groups allegedly backed by India, carried out an “unprovoked and unprompted” assault on the Pakistan Army’s positions. According to Sadiq, the objective of this action was to “destabilize the border areas and facilitate terrorist activities.”
Muhammad Sadiq stated that Pakistan’s armed forces responded reciprocally, invoking their “right to self-defense.” He said the counterattacks inflicted heavy losses on the Taliban and affiliated groups. He also announced that air and ground strikes were conducted against “camps, positions, and terrorist networks” inside Afghan territory, claiming that over 200 Taliban fighters and their associates were killed and 21 terrorist sites were temporarily seized.
Regarding Pakistani casualties, Sadiq reported that 23 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 29 others injured during the clashes. However, he emphasized that the Pakistan Army had made efforts to avoid harm to civilians.
The special representative highlighted that these events coincided with the Taliban administration’s Foreign Minister visiting India, calling the timing “concerning.” He asserted that the Taliban, in collaboration with India, actively shelters terrorist groups and uses them to disrupt regional stability.
He warned that if the Taliban administration does not take immediate and verifiable measures to suppress groups such as ISIS-K (ISKP), Fateh al-Khorasan (FAK), and Fateh al-Hindustan (FAH), Pakistan will continue conducting targeted counterterrorism operations inside Afghan territory.
The strong remarks by the Pakistani official once again reflect the adverse impact of the Taliban’s unresponsive and violent policies on regional relations. At a time when Afghanistan is enduring severe economic and humanitarian pressures, using Afghan soil for proxy and adventurous purposes not only threatens security but seriously jeopardizes opportunities for peace and development.
